i think the river god feels old and alone, he even says it at the start of the poem: ” i may be smelly and i may be old” i think he is alone because he is “looking after” a young girl who has drowned in the water. i think he is alone because to many people are scared to go anywhere near him. i also think that is why he is a little bit mental. he has been alone for so long that he has turned mad.
at the begging he sounds really nice and kind but he turns a bit evil when he says he could drown anyone if they break the rules. ” and i like people to bathe in me, especially women. but i can drown the fools
who bathe too close to the weir, contrary to rules.”
he knows that he is really old but he has a wild side and he wants to use that while he still can. ” merry i flow, o i may be an old foul river but i have plenty of go.”
the poem shows that the river god is definately alone because at the end it says ” if she wishes to go i will not forgive her.” this means that he does not want to be alone, now he has got someone he doesn’t want to let go of her because he has no one else.

I think the river god is feeling slightly alone and confused, as he has been alone for so long. He emphasises that he likes women with this quote. “Especially women”. I think this would also confuse him of how to treat people. Also being such a mysterious figure would also lure people which would also confuse him.

I think the river god is confused, alone and feels a bit old. I think hes confused because whenever he sees women, he gets confused how to treat them but he likes them though. I feel that hes alone because he looks after someone on his own and people might not want to go near him. ” i may be smelly and i may be old” is the quote that makes him feel old. At first hes nice and that he turns very fearsome.

he is selfish and lonely he wouldn’t share the sea with animals and over people he seems lonely because it doesn’t say anything about friends or family in the poem

I think the river god will be lonely because in the poem I doesn’t say anything about his friends or family he also looks very selfish because he wouldn’t share the sea with other people or animals he just kills them people

I think the river god feels alone and scared. I think this because when people come nearby, he brings them under as he doesn’t know what to do with people. I think this because he kills people

i think the river god is unfair because she gets drowned and if she floated away or got taken it wouldn’t be fair because she cant do any-think about it.
