Mr Dettman – 10En2 – Macbeth: A Man and his Prophecy

Read part of the Captain’s report to (his King) Duncan, on how the battle against the enemy went: http://nfs.sparknotes.com/macbeth/page_4.html

E/D Grade: What do we learn of Macbeth’s courage and skill in Act 1, Scene 2 of Macbeth?  Describe what he did during the battle.  What does this suggest about his character?

Read Act 1, Scene 3 (3 pages on the website), where the witches deliver the prophecy to the confused pair of Macbeth and Banquo: http://nfs.sparknotes.com/macbeth/page_12.html

C/B Grade: Given that the witches have met ‘Macbeth […] upon the heath’, speculate (suggest) whether their prophecy is intended to help him, or bring him harm.  How will such a brave and noble leader respond?

we learn that macbeth has no fear of macdonald and he will do anything to win. during the battle macbeth went straight to luck, killed her and then before macdonald could do anything he spilt his belly open. I think this suggests that macbeth is strong, courageous, ruthless and will do anything for the king.

I think it is meant to help macbeth in other words to guide him in the right path and has an idea of what is to come of him but I also think that macbeth could get to ahead of himself and mess up his chance of anything that the witches have predicted of what is to come of him..

i think that the prophecy will make Macbeth kill the king because he eventually wants to be king too much that he thinks that he has no choice but to kill the king. But if Macbeth can control himself he will go to kill the king but stop himself just before he ACTUALLY does kill the king.

I have learnt that Macbeth has no fear of Macdonald because Macbeth will, do anything to win just to save his king from dying because Macdonald is trying to kill him.

In the battle Macbeth goes up to Macdonald and puts his sword into his belly and then splits him up and then he is dead. After Macdonald is killed Macbeth finds himself surrounded by people and they are the Norwegians then he kills them as well.

I think this tells me that Macbeth is strong and sticks up for the king because he wants to be the king himself one day but he gets the thane of Cawdor instead and banquoe gets to be the king instead of Macbeth but he is confused of what the witches had said to him.

In my opinion the prophecy intends to bring harm to Macbeth because if a part of the prophecy proves to be true Macbeth would be very happy with the prophecy that he is supposed to be the king in the future.
A so brave and noble person like Macbeth will get used to the idea of being the king and having as much power as a king has. He won’t forget this idea and maybe he will get greedy for the power as a king and become very mean and bad. His decides could be very thoughtless and in the end he might be very unhappy with his situation.

i think that the prophecy will make Macbeth kill the king. because he is trying to become the next in thrown but that can only happen if macbeth kills the king. But i think the best option would be for macbeth to not kill the king as then if someone found out then he wouldn’t get called a murder and probably get killed. But my production is that macbeth probably will kill the ming.

I think the prophecy will make Macbeth kill King James because he is trying to be the king. To become the king he will have to try and kill King James.
