Mr Legowski’s 10xEN1 home learning – reflect on students’ lessons

Dear class,

This home learning will be completed by the time of our last student-taught lessons after half-term, though it’s probably best to do it shortly after your lesson so that it’s fresh in your mind. I simply want your honest feedback on how well you thought your groups’ lessons went. Please answer the following questions honestly in the box below.

  1. What was the objective of your group’s lesson? (What did you want the class to have achieved by the end of the lesson?)
  2. How hard did the students work in your lesson compared to you, the teachers?
  3. What was the best part of your lesson? Why?
  4. Did your lesson successfully meet its objectives (see 1.)?
  5. What would you do differently next time?

Many thanks.

1.) The object of my groups lesson was to get everyone to have a clear understanding of Curley we also wanted them to see the relationship between Lenny and Curley.
2.) The students worked equally as hard as we did. They co-operated with us and completed the tasks we set them.
3.) The best part of our lesson was the hot-seating because it helped everyone see the relationship between Curley and Lenny.
4.) I think our groups lesson successfully met it’s objectives because the class learnt more about Curley’s character and thought about why Curley was so eager to kill Lenny, thus meeting the objective of seeing the relationship between Curley and Lenny.
5.) Next time I would think of an activity to get the class moving because otherwise their concentration isn’t as good.

    1. The objective of the lesson was for the class to have a better understanding of who Curley’s wife really was. Curley’s wife is normally linked to Curley, so we wanted them to know about her, as an individual person.

    2. In the lesson, the students worked a lot harder than us teachers! They were completing worksheets and all we did was tell them a bit about Curley’s wife and then introduce what they had to do.

    3. I think that the best part of our lesson was when they were drawing Curley. This is because they were enjoying themselves and most of them took it seriously.

    4. In my opinion, the lesson did meet its objectives, because the students learnt about Curley’s wife’s actions/ attitudes as well as her appearance.

    5. Next time, I think that I would get the students more involved, instead on relying on worksheets. For example, I would get them to do an activity, such as role play.

    1) The objective of our lesson was to build on peoples knowledge and understanding of Curley and his relationship with Lennie.
    2) I think the students worked as hard as us and completed the tasks as we wanted with no problems and were prepared to put themselves forward in voluntary tasks such as the hot seating.
    3) Although we were running out of time i thought the hot seating towards the end of the lesson was the best part, as everyone seemed very engaged and there were many people with questions (showing that they were on task).
    4) I think that the lesson did meet the objectives set out and people learnt, in more depth, about the character of Curley and this showed with the amount of questions being posed during the hot seating activity.
    5) Next time i would have people writing about the character as it would be written evidence of the new information gained from the lesson.

1- To fully inform the class about Lennie and to help them to understand the character and complete all the tasks.
2- I think that the students and teachers worked equally hard and really tried. I think they may have got bored.
3- I think the best part of the lessons was when the class was debating about the points. And it really got peoples opinion across.
4- I think it met our objectives and I think people had a better understanding of Lennie at the end of the lesson.
5- Next time I think we would get a bit more action going on and more group work because it’s more fun for the class.

    1) To learn more about the character of Crooks.
    2) The students did more than we did because we only told people what to do and gave out sheets and everyone else had to do the work.
    3) The best part of our lesson was when we let everyone do the word search even though we didn’t have much time to do it.
    4) I think that the lesson did meet the objectives because everyone learned more about the character of Crooks.
    5) Next time we need to have less different activities and spend more time on the things we do.

    1) The objective for our lesson was for the class to gain a better understanding of curley and the relationship he had with the other characters.
    2) I think that the students worked equally as hard as us.
    3) I think that the best part of out lesson was the hot seating as it allowed the students to communicate with each other and they got a better understanding of curleys relationship with the other characters due to the questions asked by the other students.
    4) I think that the objective were met as the students gained a more developed understanding of the character Curley.
    5) I think i would get the students to have written notes about the character Curley for later reference.

    1) The objective of our lesson was to give the students a clear understanding about lennie and his feelings ect.
    2) I think that the students and teachers put equal effort in and tested their knowledge.
    3) The best part of our lesson was the debating, as It gave everyone a chance to put their points across.
    4) I think our lesson met our objectives because we digged deeper into the character of lennie and it gave everyone a better understanding of him.
    5) Next time we should make our lesson shorter and and have more activities for the group to complete instead if sitting down all the time.

1- The objective of the lesson was to teach the class about Lennie and find out what they already know.
2- The students participated really well in the lesson about Lennie, especially in the bit where they had a class debate.
3- The best part of the lesson, I think, was when we got the class to write down everything they knew about Lennie, then we discussed it with the whole class. Although it took a while, it really involved the whole class.
4- Yes the lesson did meet the objective, however I thought it was quite an easy lesson as Lennie is a very simple character to learn about.
5- Next time we would definitely have to shorten our lesson to 25 minutes like we were supposed to. Our lesson was far too long.

    1) our objective was so the class could get a better understanding on Curley’s wife and to see how much they already knew.
    2) I think some students did participate in our lesson while others didn’t do much. The teachers including me did try and make it fun.
    3) I think the best part of our lesson was the cross word puzzle, it was that everyone actually tried their best because they knew that their was a prize at the end.
    4) I think it did because everyone told is their own opinion about Curley’s wife and that gave the other students more information and something to think about.
    5) I would of actually started to prepaid for the lesson before hand even though we did have two weeks to do it, we still ended up having it kind of last minute.

    1) My group’s objective was for the class to have a better understanding about Lennie.
    2) I think the class all worked really hard as part of our lesson ended up as a debate and most people contributed, where-as some of the teachers (me) sat back and let others do the work.
    3) I think the best part of our lesson was the debate because people were able to give their own opinion about Lennie.
    4) I think it did because even though I was teaching I learnt more about Lennie and I think a lot people have done as well.
    5) I think next time we need to be more organised and make up activities beforehand and not make one up on the spot so it fills up more time, or in our case double the time we actually had in the first place.
